Should I completely line my raised bed with a liner or just the sides?

If you are building WoodBlocX on soft ground such as soil or grass...we recommend lining the sides of your raised bed with a DPM material (damp proof membrane) to protect the wood. You can also line the bottom if you wish, but remember to use a breathable / permeable liner to allow water to drain through.

If you are building WoodBlocX on hard ground such as paving or concrete...we recommend fully lining the sides and bottom of your raised bed with a DPM material (damp proof membrane) to protect the wood. Lining the sides and bottom will create an area suitable for holding soil. If you wish, to help with excess drainage on hard surfaces, you can make a few small holes at the bottom in your liner.

At the bottom of your raised bed, for both lining methods, we recommend adding a drainage layer of hardcore, sand, gravel or even organic materials such as logs and twigs. This will also reduce the amount of topsoil you will need when filling the remaining space in your WoodBlocX structure.
