# Why does my raised bed design have buttress supports?

Buttress supports are included in large raised bed designs to add strength and support to the side walls. 

Buttresses can either stand alone on the inside of the structure to act as cantilevers or are joined on both sides of the structure to form a supporting 'bridge'.
